Pragmatism in bad weather is not on the agenda for the Independent Electricity System Operator under Lesley Gallinger.
Parker Gallant Energy Perspectives
Well, well, we Ontario and other ratepayers and taxpayers throughout much of Canada and the U.S. should wonder: has “global warming” ended or should we actually believe the “climate” has a way of changing throughout the centuries mankind has existed?
Prompted by recent extreme weather events, energy commentator Parker Gallant calls out the management of Ontario’s electricity system and the effectiveness of current policies. Gallant suggests the push to phase out fossil fuels, driven by environmental advocates, is misguided, especially as the province faces bitter weather that makes reliable energy sources critical. He points to a 2021 study by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) that recommended phasing out natural gas generation by 2030. This study, notes Gallant, has mysteriously disappeared from public access, raising concerns about transparency and accountability in energy planning.
Gallant goes on to examine the IESO leadership under CEO Lesley Gallinger and her alignment with the “Church of the Climate Change Cult.” Gallant argues Gallinger’s enthusiasm for, as one example, a moratorium on new natural gas generation by 2027—contingent on the readiness of alternative energy sources—has not prioritized the affordability of electricity. The result has been a significant 29% increase in costs that have been passed on to taxpayers.
