Nuclear waste projects need due process, public participation: appeal to Environment Minister

(April 11, 2002) We are writing to request that the Environmental Assessments for the Port Hope and Port Granby Long-Term Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management Projects be referred to a review panel, according to Section 28(1)(b) of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. We believe that a single review panel to hear both Assessments may be preferable, on balance, to two separate panels. Continue reading

NB Power should mind Ontario Hydro horrors

(March 14, 2002) The old Ontario Hydro was an epic disaster. Electricity bills in the province are about 35 per cent higher than they should be because consumers were forced to pick up the tab for $21-billion in liabilities that the Crown-owned utility could not pay off.
