Letter to the Wall Street Journal in support of Lawrence Solomon’s book, "The Deniers"
(June 16, 2009) Eugenie Samuel Reich’s June 6 list of the “Five Best” books on scientific fraud misses the most egregious scientific fraud to date:the pseudoscience behind global warming hysteria. Including a book like “State of Fear” by Michael Crichton, or “Climate Confusion” by Roy Spencer, or “The Deniers” by Lawrence Solomon, or any one of a number of others would have tied in nicely with your editorial in the same issue, ” ‘Worse Than Fiction,’ ” which was a case study in bad science and global warming alarmism. Aldyen Donnelly: How the Canadian government should respond to the US Renewable Fuel Standard
I believe there is at least one policy/regulatory response that the government of Canada and provinces must mobilize as both an offence and defence against the US measures I outline below. But I have not seen–to date–evidence that the officials in Environment Canada or most of the provinces understand these issues or the need for a strategic Canadian response.

Aldyen Donnelly: Enron’s methane reduction programs were nothing but hot air
When I first started speculating in the US CO2 market in the late 1990s, I found that Enron had already bought 100% of the methane rights at countless municipal landfills across the US – and did so for pennies per TCO2e. This meant they owned control over any methane management strategy, but had no obligation to cut emissions. As far as I could tell, by 1998 they had secured control of methane rights – translating into a potential portfolio of 200 millionTCO2e/year of low cost greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction options.

The Major Outstanding LCFS Fault for Canadians: Stand Up For Diesel
Notwithstanding these improvements, we anticipate that the LCFS will be subjected to US court challenge and there is a high probability that the CA LCFS will not be upheld. Canadian negotiators should seriously consider options to use the US courts to establish precedents in the CA LCFS context that should prove useful in the larger climate change treaty negotiations.
